iron oxide nanoparticles as a source of black pigment for cosmetic production
1. Efficiency of the nanoparticles
Wion Technology with IONSOL products provides highly concentrated solutions of coated iron (II, III) oxide nanoparticles ready for direct use in aqueous systems. Due to nanoparticles that are agglomerated in monodisperse clusters, even small dosage of the products makes a significant change in colour (Fig. 1).

Iron (II, III) oxide in IONSOL 6W and IONSOL 12W products has been adapted to water-based paint formulations with addition of a dispersing agent. It demonstrates stability in various, aqueous systems. Dispersing agent allows a manufacturer to directly used IONSOL product in a batch, shorten a time needed for vigorous mixing.

IONSOL1W is intended to be optimilised for client request. Various paramaters can be prepared for special purpose.
IONSOL6W is slighlt hydrophobic version of IONSOL12W.
IONSOL12W is our main product – highly concentrated.
4. UV protection
Iron oxdie (II,III) nanoparticles are powerful as absorption and protection agent against UVA and visible light radiation. Together with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are added to paints and inks to prevent a surface from radiation.
5. Markets
MASCARA
iron oxide (II,III) acts as an natural, inorganic pigment for mascara manufacturing. Combining the IONSOL products with titanium diooxide, different type of shades can be obtained. Moreover, particles are covered with a protecting layer, preventing the ink from discoloration or washing.
SUNSCREENS
iron (II,III) oxide nanoparticles found their purpose also in care product as UV absorbers, making suncreens more effective together with other pigments.
COSMETIC AND CARE PRODUCTS
iron oxide (II,III) nanoparticles can be added to other products from cosmetic industry like make up and skin care – whenever it needs special properties and black colour.
